PROBLEM TYPE I
RECURRING MOMENTARY NEEDS, POOR RESPONSES

In a well-running business, all potentially recurring problems have procedures and checklists set up to prevent the problem, handle it at the moment, and post-handling/improvements.

In a well-run life, the same would be true.

But we operate as if we were a poorly run business, incurring the same problems over and over and never quite solving them.  Not good!  Not acceptable!  Not something we should tolerate in our lives!

As in all problem solving, we need to identify the problems, define them, seek ideas to solve or prevent them, and then implement a strategy to fix them and/or keep them fixed.

The way our physical/emotional system operates is through chemical signals.  Often these are ones that give us momentary discomfort.  We, as humans, then are "motivated" or "driven" to solve the discomfort.

Ok, that is all good.

However, sometimes we misread the signals, misread the severity, and respond based on faulty knowledge/beliefs.

That is NOT GOOD!

AN EXAMPLE

I learn that I would be healthier at a lower weight, even though I look fairly good now.

I therefore don't eat much during the day, trying to keep the calories down.  And I exercise virtually every day (not 'very hard', though).

Later in the evening I think I am feeling low in energy and I want to be more alert, so I  start to feel uncomfortable from the thought plus my system will tend to automatically try to get me to a better more balanced place, so it might give me additional discomfort.

I might also get a bit bored, partially because I am a bit slow and not doing much that is really occupying - and TV is the worst.

So I seek "energy" via ice cream, eating it to satiation and beyond in a mindless binging and constant eating for stimulation.  This has me not feeling so good afterward (alot of crap in my stomach at one time), my body goes crazy with the sugar (so I feel 'unsettled' and uncomfortable, which is what I was trying to escape), I don't sleep as well.  And I may think some disparaging thoughts about myself:  my lack of discipline, my stupidity, my living life at a level far below where I could live it.

And there is no weight loss, which is disappointing and puts me in a condition that is less than aliveness, not to speak of lower energy and carrying around all that needless extra weight.

Yet I repeat the poor response.

It is time to complete this.

So I'll use the Problem Type 1 Solution Form.

WHEN WE SOLVE A PROBLEM, WE MUST IDENTIFY ALL THE ASPECTS

In this situation, as with all Type 1 problems, we have a motivation to quell the discomfort and we also have a motivation to achieve something we want.  The first one will govern us unless we increase the amplitude of and/or the top-of-the-mindedness (via reading a reminder statement or reciting a memorized one).   So, in solving the problem, you'll see that we are clarifying why we want what we want and strongly committing to it and even visualizing the 'why' to make it more impactful.

We also address part of the problem in the poor knowledge and training aspect, where we fail to note that we can use other methods to handle the discomfort - including the realization that the "emotion" is fleeting and will pass, in a minute and a half tops (per science) - if we think it is longer then we are more driven, even compelled, to an inappropriate "solution".   (See Living A Life Dictated By Feelings... Or Not? - a major piece to understand to live a greater life.)

WHAT ARE THE TYPE 1 PROBLEMS

While they vary by person, these are some examples.  They apply to you if you are experiencing the bad results related to them.

Overweight

Anger, Rage

THE PARTS OF THE FORM

What do I want is

Why do I want this?

Does it fit with
My purpose,

The Gap:

What I am getting is

The gap is identified as

The reason I am getting this, the causes.  (And the causes of the causes are...)

My procedure for solving this is:

Pre-problem

At the moment, currently

Afterwards

I will journal this.
I will problem solve, see what else I can do.
I will read my resolution and get my head straight, by reading this in my Reminders Notebook

So, you know you need to fix these recurring problems either after they occur or, preferably, in advance in anticipation, knowing they will reoccur!

But, the question is "well what do I do right now?"
