Read, watch, but do it to "sufficient knowing" level, so your understanding is high enough to have you doing what will help!!!!

TWO KEY CAUSES

1.  Musculature contraction - improves rapidly with activity, heat

2. Nerve compression in the lower back - Usually with accidents, sitting in a slouched position, leaning forward.

2nd key video:  Sciatica Exercises And Treatment.

Focus on nerve compression first!

On floor front down, prop self up with elbows, extending the spine.  Look for symptoms furthest down leg and do those first.  A minute at a time, 2-3 times a day.  If inflammation use bag of frozen peas or crushed ice, or gel pak on lower back, cover area about waist a bit. Stretch each side 3-4 times every few hours if severe, crossing leg over thigh.  Soaking in a hot tub.  Only use heating pad up to 20 minutes, but cold packs could be better.  Watch the video!

Hot or cold?  Most often there s inflammation, which indicates ice.

3rd key video:  Take care of disks now, especially hydration

NOT CURABLE

You get to live with this forever, so you need
Have doctor (specialist) say specifically which it is.  How bad is the closure around the nerve?
Do I have spinal stenosis?  Lumbar herniated disc?
Does the sciatic nerve pass over or split the periformis muscle?

Tarsal tunnel syndrome may occur in leg and into your foot caused by a pinched nerve.

Pressure on a spinal nerve can cause sciatica symptoms, which usually include a shooting pain down the back or side of the leg.
Your leg may also feel weak, tingly, or numb. This pressure on the nerve can be caused by:

1. A bulging or ruptured disc in your spine. This is also called a herniated disc or protrusion. It usually gets better within a month or two.

2. Stenosis is a term that simply means narrowing. In the spine, there are three main causes of stenosis: congenital (meaning you are born with narrower canals than most people), degenerative (sometimes called “bony” stenosis), and stenosis due to disc protrusion/extrusion. You can have one, or any combination of the three types, and the appropriate treatment depends on the type(s) present and the severity.

Caution: Stretching the hamstrings (back of upper leg) is fine as long as you are not currently experiencing sciatica symptoms. The stretch is not damaging per se, but when the nerve is already irritated, the stretch places additional mechanical tension on the nerve which further irritates it.

Back And Neck Pain

Sciatica is related to back pain, so see that section.

An MRI usually is not needed, as this can be diagnosed without it!
