DETAIL PLUS CRITICAL THINKING

To get to a solution, reach a goal, or create an effective change we often need to be more complete and detailed plus we frequently need to do some additional "critical" thinking (or planning).  This greater effort plus the lack of clarity that often occurs will stop some people.

But this is not necessary, as there are ways to handle those in an easier manner.

THE SEQUENCE PROBLEM

Many forms are in a sequence based on chronological or logical relationship to each other part.  As such, your thinking may not happen in the same order.  Creative thinking particularly does not naturally fit into boxed sequences.

The key in that case is to free yourself up to fill out the form in whatever order comes naturally.

INFORMATION NOT INSTANTLY ACCESSIBLE

Also, there may be some information that you can't come up with at the time.

The key in that case is to free yourself up to just go to what is next, leaving that information out until later.

NOT IN THE MODE FOR "CRITICAL THINKING"

When "critical" thinking is needed, we might not be able to marshall our resources to do that at that moment.  "Critical thinking" simply involves making sure one is using facts and then tying them together using reasoning to come up with a useful solution or plan.  (See Thinking.)

The key in that case is to free yourself up to skip it for the moment, coming back later for the completion.

MORE TIME, PLUS DEFERRED GRATIFICATION

The longer forms will take more time and that may stop some people, with a lot of us used to quicker gratification and stimulation.

The key in that case is to free yourself up by doing it in chunks or in "levels".

Chunks are simply separate pieces done in separate work periods.

"Levels" refers to either level of detail or level of thinking.  Often it is easier and more satisfying to do a "quick surface run through", where we go from beginning to end doing only the easy stuff that comes most easily to one's mind - and not perfecting anything or getting stuck on details.  Some people will just put down key words or phrases and then come back later to fill in the details or to complete the thinking.

In both those cases, simply schedule your work into separate periods of time.

EASIER TO WORK WITH OTHERS

Much of the wasted time in working with others results from the gathering, and often "re-gathering" of information so that the other will have enough insight and information to help solve a problem and/or achieve a desired goal.  Hours and hours are spent with counselors trying to ferret out the facts and to get clients to acknowledge what is so - we can save most of that time.

Complete the longer forms and you'll provide more information to work with, plus you'll create a better understanding from whoever you are partnering with.

The net result of using these longer, deeper forms will be that you will attain much better results in your life!

THE REWARDS AND THE SATISFACTION

Investing one's time properly produces the greatest total return.  Investing in solving a high impact problem or effectively planning how to attain a higher importance goal has the best return per amount of time - but only if one actually completes the process to get the finished end product.  (See Completion, one of the sources of Power In Life.)

Many people dabble and/or go part way toward a solution, spending effort that perhaps gets some minimal results but nothing at the level of what is rationally desired and at the highest level of effectiveness.

It is not uncommon for people to use up a lot of time partially solving the problem, often having to go back again and again as the problem comes up.  The cumulative time spent may be more than what would be required to do it all at once in more depth.  Even if it is not more time, the negative consequences of having an unsolved problem repeating itself incurs a net cost much greater than the extra time spent.

Use the more in-depth approaches on important, high impact areas in life and you'll have fewer, smaller problems but, more importantly, you'll have a hugely more satisfying, fulfilled, and happier life!
