A BETTER VEHICLE
Before we do the actual steps to success, it is, I think, essential that we build the machine that will be better able to go down the road. That machine would be created by adopting those traits that have help successful people to be successful.
Most people will try to bypass this essential strengthening process, but it is much more difficult to be as successful without building the machine to do it. One worthwhile construct for this is from the winningest coach in history: John Wooden's Pyramid Of Success. You would look at what you are willing to do and then use the strategy that the best athletes have always done, do it with a coach. (See Life Coaching, where you can use a professional or set up no-cost alternatives.)
IT TAKES POWER
It takes "power" to be successful. Not power in terms of force or authority, but in terms of the ability to cause something to happen and eliminating the barriers that get in the way. You'll want to see the main page on power: Power In Life; The Factors. See also the discussion at Role Models And Mentors.
WHEN I "GET", THEN I'LL BE HAPPY
The reason we want success is to have something. To have something we must do something. Then we believe if we have something we will "be" happy.
THE BAD/GOOD NEWS IS...
But the "bad news" (or the "good news", depending on one's viewpoint) is that actually the "being" comes first. If you "be" a certain way, the results manifest themselves much better and much more quickly. For many people, this realization is quite illuminating and then quite result-producing. Read the Being section, and also note in your readings how one's way of being dictates what one produces in life - both "out there" and "inside".
In a manner, The Secret addressed this, but not in a complete and practical way, as it takes more than "being" a positive person. It takes "being" those ways of being that work in life to produce the results we want. And the things that indicate our way of being are generally called "traits" if they are consistently employed.
Trait is defined as a distinguishing quality or characteristic. Used in a sentence, it comes out like this (note the "be"): He is authentic. She is industrious. She has integrity (= is integrous).
BEING SUCCESSFUL REQUIRES BEING THESE PARTS
I see so many people who look for the shortcuts to success and who don't want to "have to" "be" those things that are conducive to success. They look for some "quickie" way to make it happen, as if in a fantasy where one suddenly achieves fame by being "discovered" somehow. Believe you me, it don't happen dat way!
IS THIS TOO HARD?
Rather ignorantly, many people think that it is "too hard" to develop and/or be these traits. But actually life is easier, more rewarding, and feels a lot better if you "be" these. You'll be asked to make the decision - and I recommend highly that you commit to developing all of these.
